WHERE IS AVORIAZ?
Avoriaz sits high up right at the centre of the Portes du Soleil in Haute Savoie. It is easily accessible by plane, train or car.
BY PLANE
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, IS THE MAIN AIRPORT FOR AVORIAZ
During the winter season, Geneva has an extensive flight schedule with flights to and from most regional airports, in addition to major international airports, making it very easy to fly from your local airport. From Geneva airport, it is just a short transfer of approximately 1:40 - 2:00 hours. You can book your transfer now, with our partner service SKI LIFTS here.
BY CAR
If you prefer to drive, Avoriaz is easily accessible by car. Motorways connect to Geneva and Cluses from across Europe, from where it is just a short journey on. The journey from the Channel ports is approximately 8-9 hours and 6 from Paris. Expect the journey to be longer during school holidays, when traffic can be heavy.
BY TRAIN
The nearest train stations to Avoriaz are Cluses and Thonon-les-bains in France, both of which are about 1 hour away by taxi, or Geneva Cornavin in Switzerland, which is about 2 hours away, but with a frequent 10 minute train connection onto the airpoprt has the advantage of allowing shared transfers by mini-bus.
AVORIAZ IS VEHICLE FREE
Avoriaz is a car-free, snow-covered resort. All vehicles (with the exception of traction and horse-drawn sleighs) are prohibited from entering the resort and are parked in specially designated car parks at the entrance to the resort.
AVORIAZ WELCOME CENTRE
To facilitate arrival and departure, Avoriaz has its own arrival area, known locally as the Accueil. It is located at the entrance to the resort, by the indoor car. The outdoor car parks are 500 metres further back. The main resort transport hub is also located here and is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. On arrival the resort staff will assist you with onwards transport by horse drawn sleigh or traction vehicle to your accommodation.
ARRIVING VIA PRODAINS
It is also possible to arrive via Prodains and take the cable car up to Avoriaz. However, we recommend that you arrive via the Avoriaz Welcome Centre. There are many reasons for this - the cable car does not run 24 hours a day, it is more difficult and slower to get transport to your accommodation from the top of the cable car and the cost of getting up and down from Prodains is considerable and a hassle with all your luggage.
